Expertise and innovation drive breakthrough technology.

Quantance is a venture-backed analog/RF semiconductor startup based in Silicon Valley. Through proven innovations in RF transmit chain efficiency that result in more signal power using less battery power, Quantance technology enables wireless phones, data cards, and other mobile consumer devices to support 3G, 3.5G, and 4G services with greater power output, longer battery life, and without excessive heat buildup.

THE MANAGEMENT TEAM

Vikas Vinayak CEO
Vikas is a technical entrepreneur, combining his analog engineering background with the ability to successfully identify markets for new technologies. With the opening of the Indian economy in 1991 and consequent expansion of CNN in to India, Vikas co-founded TouchBeam Systems, a CATV Head-end Equipment company, where he was co-CEO from 1991 to 1998.  During this time, the company produced 85 products for the distribution of CATV signals. Vikas moved to the United States in 1999 to work for the Silicon Valley operations of National Semiconductor, where he took on various leadership roles, including Manager of Wireless Applications covering National’s PLLatinum, DECT, Bluetooth and GSM product lines. He joined Maxim Integrated Products in 2002 as Business Manager for UMTS RF Transceivers where he was involved in the architecture, design, and production of RF products across all major cellular standards in all major frequency bands.  Vikas co-founded Quantance in 2006.

Vikas holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

Serge Drogi CTO
Serge has been working on integrated circuits for cellular applications throughout his 20 year career. He started his career in 1988 at Philips Semiconductors in Europe. As a designer and later a design group leader, he contributed to numerous receiver ICs for GSM, including the first image rejecting front-end for Ericsson, which sold in mass-market volumes. In 1995, Serge joined Motorola to work on a cutting edge project developing frac-N modulation for GSM and while at Motorola he contributed to many other receiver designs. In 2000, Serge joined Maxim Integrated Products as an RF systems architect. After a short break from cellular products during which he worked on a single chip high power ISM transmitter, he defined the architecture for Maxim's UMTS chip set, achieving true RF to digital functionality in one IC. These radios included very high speed sigma-delta converters in both the receive and transmit chains, making heavy use of digital filtering to achieve multi-standard compatibility. In 2006 he co-founded Quantance in pursuit of his goal of designing an RF and power management system that harvests the efficiency benefits of power supply modulation at the power amplifier for high peak to average radio signals.

Serge holds an Engineering degree from the National Institute of Applied Science, Lyon, France.

Martin Tomasz VP Product Architecture
A seasoned analog and systems IC architect, Martin began his career with Maxim Integrated Products in 1989, where he was among the first team of engineers devoted to defining innovative analog products for the company. In the span of 13 years, Martin defined and developed the architecture for over 25 products with sales of at least $50M, including traditional analog semiconductor products, power management systems for notebook computers, cellular power systems and chargers, RF standard components, radio chip sets and broadband tuners, including a direct conversion satellite tuner product which was an EDN Product of the Year finalist. Martin left Maxim in 2001 as Senior Scientist and joined the US Antarctic Program, funded by the National Science Foundation, for two seasons; and then returned to Maxim as a consultant. Before joining Quantance, Martin was involved in a startup semiconductor company building medical electronics. He is actively involved in the nonprofit International Rescue Committee where he served as chair of the advisory board.

Martin holds a B.A. in Physics and a M. Eng. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.

Mark Gehring VP Engineering
Mark's career spans more than 25 years of successful RF system and circuit design experience. His IC designs have resulted in aggregate sales of over 50 million units. Mark worked previously for Motorola (Analog cell phone front ends), AT&E (a wrist watch pager startup), and Tektronix. He was a co-founder of RadioCom, a design house which produced 13 RFIC's over seven years. These designs included a medical implant transceiver, satellite television receivers, cordless telephone transceiver, and keyless entry transceivers. RadioCom was acquired by Cypress Semiconductor, where Mark last served in the role of Senior Member of the Technical Staff. He was the RF technical lead for the successful WirelessUSB™ product line. As a member of the IEEE Circuits and Systems society, Mark presented a paper at the IEEE International Solid State Circuit Conference, and holds 13 US patents in the areas of RF systems, IC circuits, and DSP.

Mark holds a BSEE from University of Cincinnati.

Tom Wrappe VP Marketing
Tom provides leadership for the Quantance Marketing and Business Development areas. He has over 25 years of wireless communications industry experience spanning a full range of companies from startups to industry giants. Prior to Quantance, he served as the lead product executive at SnapTrack, acquired by Qualcomm in 2000 for $1B. During his tenure as Senior Vice President at Qualcomm, the SnapTrack GPS technology was established as a world leader with GPS integrated into over 100M IC’s and over 30 wireless carriers worldwide. Before SnapTrack/Qualcomm, Tom held senior management and executive positions at a number of prominent wireless players including key roles at Texas Instrument’s Wireless Division, MCI Communications PCS Group, TCSI’s wireless chipset group and Hughes Network Systems Satcom Division.

Tom holds a BSEE from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago

Rob Rovetta Senior Director Product Management
Rob has over 25 years of experience in wireless communications, GPS, and digital processing systems in both business and engineering roles. Prior to Quantance, he was Senior Director of Product Management at Qualcomm’s chip division, QCT, responsible for defining strategic opportunities, marketing, licensing and launching assisted-GPS (AGPS) and Qualcomm’s gpsOneTM technology in location-based services worldwide. Rob came to Qualcomm from SnapTrack, Inc., the startup that pioneered AGPS, where he was responsible for licensing AGPS silicon and software to chip manufacturers and handset OEMs. Prior to SnapTrack, Rob held leadership positions for Magellan Corporation and Trimble Navigation, where he led business development and product management for GPS-enabled enterprise and consumer products. Before the GPS and communication industries, Rob worked for ROLM Corporation, where he had product management, program management, and system engineering responsibilities for digital processing systems. Rob started his career as a member of the development engineering staff at ESL/TRW, where he designed and produced VHF, UHF, and microwave antenna systems for strategic and tactical reconnaissance.

Rob holds a BSEE from the University of California at Davis.
