January 19, 2012 – Q845 Offers Unmatched Performance, Streamlined Architecture and Standard Interface to Enable Fast Adoption by Baseband and Transceiver Chipset Providers in Exploding Market

Q845 Offers Unmatched Performance, Streamlined Architecture and Standard Interface to Enable Fast Adoption by Baseband and Transceiver Chipset Providers in Exploding Market

SAN MATEO, California – January 19, 2011 – Quantance Inc., manufacturer of ultra-fast, 4G envelope tracking (ET) power supplies, today announced the Q845 ET power supply that enables power amplifier (PA) efficiency to reach theoretical limits and dramatically increases PA peak transmit power. This single-chip product is the third generation implementation of the company’s qBoost™ technology, which provides the response time equivalent of a 400MHz switcher for ET systems, over 100 times faster than any other mobile ET power supply solution available today. This ultra-fast performance, along with a more streamlined architecture and a tiny chip footprint, sets a new industry standard for size, cost and integration simplicity.

The Q845 plans compatibility with upcoming standards-based ET control and envelope interfaces. This compatibility enables the Q845 to be openly and seamlessly integrated into any 4G/LTE baseband and transceiver chipset platform targeted for use in tablets, smartphones, data cards and other mobile high-speed data devices. The Q845 can be used for ET in these devices to dramatically enhance PA efficiency and increase PA peak power to ensure robust 4G/LTE operation, including faster data speeds, reduced battery current and extended data coverage.

The need for effective ET solutions in chipset reference designs has grown dramatically in the past year, in direct relation to the explosive growth in high-speed data and the mass-market deployment of LTE devices. ET solutions provide the 4G/LTE PA efficiency and transmit power improvements critical to ensure LTE performance, and many chipset providers are already planning to integrate ET solutions in their latest platforms.

“When we architected the Q845, we combined Quantance’s unique patented approach to ultra fast power supply design into a smaller, more efficient package, and made sure we focused on industry standards compatibility,” said Vikas Vinayak, Quantance’s CEO and co-founder. “The new design will integrate nicely into baseband and chipset reference designs, enabling those companies to provide a proven ET solution that gives the best possible PA efficiency and highest PA transmit power output available in the industry today.”

The Q845 uses a patented combination of switching and linear power supplies to efficiently deliver a precisely controlled voltage to the PA, thus optimizing its performance. For increased peak power and high power efficiency, Q845 operates in ET mode, changing the PA voltage instantaneously to track the modulation envelope of the transmitted signal. To maintain efficiency in mid- and low-power PA operation, the Q845 transitions seamlessly to its average power tracking (APT) mode, where the voltage is changed at a slower rate, yet still maintains the PA at its peak efficiency.

Evaluation kits are available today. Sampling begins in Q1 2012.

January 17, 2012 - Clear wireless industry momentum toward standardizing both the ET control and ET envelope interfaces within the MIPI Alliance

MIPI® Alliance Advances Radio Frequency Interface Technology in Mobile Devices

New DigRFSM and RFFE Specifications Address Growing System Complexity

Piscataway, NJ, January 17, 2012 – MIPI Alliance today announced two specifications targeting the digital modem and the front-end radio portions of a mobile device. The DigRF v4 v1.10 specification defines the interface between one or more baseband ICs and radio frequency (RF) ICs, and delivers increased bandwidth for data-intensive HSPA+/LTE architectures. The RFFE v1.10 specification defines a standardized control architecture for RF front-end devices, and offers a low-complexity solution for multi-mode, multi-band and multiple antenna configurations. Both specifications expand on previous versions by addressing today’s complex multi-radio wireless systems. For more information, go to www.mipi.org/DigRF_RFFE

“MIPI Alliance takes a unique approach with RF interface technology, realizing there are distinct requirements for both digital and front end aspects,” said Joel Huloux, Chairman of the Board, MIPI Alliance. “This focused effort results in tailored specifications that meet market needs and ease deployment. Both the DigRF v4 v1.10 and RFFE v1.10 specifications deliver on these objectives.”

DigRF Delivers One High Speed Interface for Multiple Applications

Flexible and efficient, the DigRF v4 interface supports next-generation technologies including HSPA+, LTE, Mobile WiMAX, and existing 3GPP standards including 2.5G and 3.5G. A large data rate and scalability also enables it to cover other non-3GPP air interfaces. DigRF v4 leverages high-speed serial technology and delivers optimized power efficiency via multiple speed modes and fast cycling between active and power-saving operation.

DigRF v4 is based on the MIPI Alliance M-PHYSM physical layer specification. The specification enables a single, integrated Link between a baseband IC and RFICs, with options for additional RFICs and BBICs using separate links.

DigRF v4 provides interoperability at the interface level, and allows for a common physical layer. Using one common high speed interface for these numerous applications reduces design resources and speeds time-to-market.

“Standardized MIPI interfaces are critical in helping designers meet the increased data throughput requirements for mobile terminals targeting 4G applications,” said John Koeter, vice president of marketing for IP and systems at Synopsys. “As a contributing member of the MIPI Alliance, Synopsys continues to support the MIPI ecosystem by providing high-quality, silicon-proven DesignWare MIPI IP solutions that support the latest MIPI DigRFv4 v1.10 specifications, enabling designers to integrate the MIPI interface into their designs faster and with lower risk.”

“We are seeing significant customer demand for the DigRFv4 interface and as a leading provider of these solutions, we are very happy with the continued refinement of MIPI’s DigRFv4 specifications,” commented C. Srinivasan, VP Engineering at Cosmic Circuits.

Companies contributing to the development of the DigRF v4 Version 1.10 specification include: Arasan Chip Systems Inc., Cadence Design Systems, Inc, Fujitsu Limited, Intel Corporation, Motorola Mobility, Inc., Nokia Corporation, Panasonic Corporation, Research In Motion, ST-Ericsson, and Synopsys, Inc.

RFFE Encompasses Simple to Complex Master/Slave Configurations

RFFE v1.10 offers a consistent, flexible method for controlling RF front-end devices, including power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, filters, switches, power management modules, antenna tuners and sensors. It supports point-to- multipoint connectivity, controlling simple to complex RF systems.

The specification offers extensibility, ranging from one Slave on a single bus to many Slaves on a single bus or distributed on multiple buses. This optimized Master and Slave implementation offers simplicity without sacrificing a broad set of features. Leveraging one common control interface for numerous configurations also reduces design time and improves time-to-market.

“As a contributing member to the MIPI Alliance on ET interface standards, we are excited to see the progress being made on the RFFE v.1.10 digital interface,” says Vikas Vinayak, CEO of Quantance, an industry leader in ultra-fast ET power supplies. “There is clearly wireless industry momentum toward standardizing both the ET control and ET envelope interfaces within the MIPI Alliance, and we a proud to be a part of the effort.”

October 3, 2011 – Consumer benefits and ROI opportunities of industry’s fastest power supply impresses both judges and audience

SAN MATEO, California – October 3, 2011 – Quantance Inc., manufacturer of the industry’s fastest power supply for 4G mobile devices, this week was selected as winner of the prestigious GigaOM Mobilize LaunchPad Judges’ Choice and Audience Choice awards, which each year honor a top startup in the mobile industry. Quantance is the first company in the award’s history to sweep both categories.

“We are incredibly proud to be the first company honored with both the GigaOM LaunchPad Judges’ Choice and Audience Choice awards,” said Vikas Vinayak, Quantance’s CEO and co-founder. “That we’re a power supply company underscores that deep technology is becoming more widely recognized by not just investors but consumers, who may not realize the issue lies in the power supply but still feel the pain of slower data speeds, short battery life and, especially, dropped calls. With our recently announced Series C funding in hand, we look forward to expanding the Quantance family of power management products, including ultrafast power supplies, which will allow mobile users to experience the full promise of 4G.”

Quantance was among 10 startups participating in GigaOM’s Mobilize LaunchPad earlier this week in San Francisco. All finalists presented to a panel of four industry luminaries and investors, as well as the conference’s audience, showcasing innovative ideas that cross the mobile spectrum, from chips to apps to mobile health devices. The judges — Bob Abbott of Norwest Venture Partners, Tim Lee of Sequoia Capital, Jim Parsons of Silicon Valley Bank and Jack Sheridan of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati — and the audience agreed that Quantance was the winner.

Quantance offers a simple solution for mobile device manufacturers, carriers and consumers frustrated by their 4G devices’ spotty coverage, battery life and slow data speeds. Judges were impressed that the company’s solution improves power supply when phones need it most – to handle the higher demands of data. They also liked that it offers a compelling ROI solution for carriers wishing to enhance network capacity and improve wireless performance – ultimately helping carriers improve customer satisfaction.

Quantance’s patented technology enables power supplies to operate more efficiently while responding 100 times faster than conventional solutions now in use. This extraordinary performance of Quantance’s solution enables 4G devices such as smartphones and tablets to drastically increase upload speeds, which improves the user experience, extends battery life and enhances network capacity.
