Quantance has patented several RF and DC power supply innovations as the basis for its instantaneous envelope tracking (ET) technology known as qBoost™. Unique in the wireless industry and designed specifically for mobile devices, qBoost utilizes efficient, low noise, ultra fast power supply technology to provide instantaneous ET for 3G and 4G PAs.
qBoost can be used to significantly boost PA output power, improve PA efficiency, increase the PA tolerance to mismatch conditions common in real world RF front-end conditions, and dramatically extend the operating frequency range of a PA.
Using a patented combination of switching and linear supplies, qBoost converts voltage from a mobile device battery or fixed 5V supply and delivers to the PA a precisely controlled voltage aligned with the modulation waveform of the input RF signal. The voltage is applied in real-time, adjusting instantaneously throughout the period of the RF input.
This approach operates the PA at or near its maximum saturated efficiency, dramatically enhancing the efficiency of the PA, increasing its linear peak power, improving its tolerance to mismatch, and extending its operating frequency range.
